089Nina Basica Finci was born and raised in Makarska, Croatia, and immigrated to United States at age 15, in 1991, just a few months before the Yugoslav war changed her family’s life. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in English Literature and earned an M.F.A degree from the University of San Francisco, where she completed her memoir Peel Me a Pomegranate. An excerpt, “Second Language,” appears in the 5th issue of Switchback.
